“What do you know about that Jay guy? I’ve always thought he was a solid guy but I’m really concerned about some things that I’m hearing about him.” These were the words repeated to me by a friend several years ago. His parents had been asked this question by one of my friends who was concerned about the direction I was heading in life. My faith was really becoming meaningful to me and I was diligently seeking the Lord praying and studying the Scriptures. It was impossible for me to remain silent about the Good News of the Gospel that was miraculously transforming me. And this terrified my friend! The Jay he liked was changing before his very eyes.
I’ve recently been reflecting on this time of my life and on the power of friendships. It seems that the more time you spend with someone, the more you become like them. Close relationships change you. And no relationship will change you more than time spent with God. Close, intimate time with God will renew your mind and transform you into His likeness. And this is scary for people close to you who aren’t sure what’s
happening to you. As you are being changed into the likeness of Christ remember to care for those close to you who don’t understand what is happening. Love them. Pray for them. And invite them into a wonderful transforming relationship with Jesus.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 ESV.
