Marilyn was born and raised at Grabill Indiana, until the age of 8 and then the family relocated at Hicksville, OH. She was one of five children born to Henry and Mary Miller. She was raised in the Amish church until her early teen years and the family attended the Ridgeview Amish Mennonite Church where she also received Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She also was baptized there.
It was at the Ridgeview Amish Mennonite Church where they began their relationship and were married in October of 1973. That was 44 years ago.
The preaching at Ridgeview Amish Mennonite Church was all in German mixed with a little Swiss and was difficult for Steve and Marilyn to understand. They had concern that their one child at that time wouldn’t get much from the services as well. Since they lived in the Hicksville Ohio area, they began attending the Hicksville Mennonite Church in 1977. In 1986 Steve was licensed as the Senior Pastor and was ordained to that position in 1987. He has been the Senior Pastor since that time.
Steve was self-employed for many years, working 4 days a week installing cabinets for numerous builders, cabinet shops in the Fort Wayne, IN area and some retailers in the Defiance, OH area. He spent the rest of the week serving the church. Since June 2018 he is full time serving the church. Marilyn is also self-employed doing weekly house cleaning for numerous women in the Fort Wayne and Hicksville area. She recently began helping an elderly woman with evening meals.
Through the years God has richly blessed Steve and Marilyn and they now have four children of their own, whom they love dearly. Shawn (Flint, Mi), Darrin (St Joe, IN), Angela (Columbus, OH) and Brandon (Harlan, IN) They also have 6 living grandchildren that bring them great joy. 6 grandsons, Caleb, Joel, Andrew, Madden, Landon and Josiah, 2 granddaughters, Alivia and Abigail and 1 granddaughter Mia, in heaven.
