If you could have anything in the world, what would you choose? Doesn’t that question get your mind rolling? So many possibilities… maybe a bass boat! Or new kitchen cabinets! Or possibly a decadent house on the French Riviera for those of you who set your sights higher! While many of us enjoy this thought experiment as a fun but harmless activity, many people actually begin obsessing over trying to acquire their most extravagant desires. Their single minded devotion to success and the acquisition of wealth would actually be admirable if we wouldn’t know the futility of it. No matter how high they climb or how much they acquire, it is never enough.
While it seems that we can find tons of people with the ruthless single-minded devotion to wealth acquisition, finding some with just the same singular passion for seeking the face of God is more of a rarity. If your greatest desire in the world is to seek the kingdom of God, your desires will actually
be satisfied — as opposed to the dissatisfaction that comes from pursuing wealth. Colossians 3:1-4 tells us “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Seek after the things of God. You won’t be disappointed!
