Courage For The New Year

Each of us wish each other a happy new year when Jan 1 rolls around. Most of us enter the year wondering what will happen this year? How will our health be? Will we be able to keep our job? What will this school year be like? Will we see the end of the year? What pandemic will we have this year? Will the economy pick up or fall apart?

In Joshua chapter 1 we find Joshua with a task at hand that he probably was not expecting. Moses had passed away and God is asking Joshua to lead his people into the land he has given them. I can imagine that Joshua had many questions in his

mind at this point too. How can I fill Moses’ shoes? How will I know where to go? In Joshua 1: 9 we se the promise that God gave to Joshua. “Be strong and of good courage be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.

We have that same promise in Matthew 28: 20b “I am with you always even unto the end of the world.” With that promise we should have no fear going into the new year. We know that God is always with us. All we need to do is trust Him and let Him lead us. As we face new things this year let’s allow God to work through us and help us to follow him more closely.
