EXCUSES, EXCUSES

By Elder Elton Gingerich

Excuses-450X300

Does it trouble you when people make excuses to avoid responsibility? Have you heard or even used these excuses: I’m too busy, I’m not good at that, I’m not qualified, I don’t know how?

In the Bible, in Exodus 3 and 4, we find Moses making excuses to avoid going to Egypt to speak to the Israelites. Exodus 4: 10-13 says: 10. Moses pleaded with God, “I am not very good with words. I never have been, and I am not now even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” 11. Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak,

hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12. Now go!  I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” 13. But Moses again pleaded, “Lord please! Send someone else.” After Moses’ pleading, the Lord becomes angry and agrees to send Aaron, his brother, to speak for him.

Has God asked you to do something? Are you making excuses to avoid doing it? Don’t hide behind your excuses or inadequacies. Instead, look past yourself to God, step out in faith and trust Him to equip you for the task He has called you to do.
