Recently, my wife and I had some decisions to make that would have some major affects on our future. We knew what we wanted to do and we thought we knew what God was saying in the situation. After making one of our decisions, we experienced some bumps and delays that caused us to question if we had made the right decision. We spent a lot of time praying and seeking God’s will, asking God for discernment. One evening, while praying, about a very specific decision we needed to make, I received a text message. After we finished praying, I read the message and it confirmed and reassured us of the specific thing we had just been praying about! We experienced this, many times, during this season of our lives. Discerning God’s will isn’t always easy but if we are seeking his will and laying our will aside, God will direct us.
In Luke 22:41-42 it says: “He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Jesus was willing to lay aside his will and make the supreme sacrifice to follow God’s plan. Are you willing to lay aside your will to follow God’s plan for your life?
