In Isaiah 43:1-2 there is a promise that God made. It reads: “But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” The Lord is saying, do not fear, for I am with you, you are mine. He calls you by name and walks with you through the water and the flames. No matter the trial or temptation you are facing you can have confidence that God is there with you because of this promise. Are you seeking God and claiming this promise or are you seeking other people and things for comfort when you are worried, afraid, or tempted? I encourage you, the next time you find yourself in these situations and no matter how dark it may seem, remember God’s promise to you. He will not allow the waters to overflow you or the flames to burn you. He has called you by name and you are his. Claim it!
