We are in planting season full swing. Farmers are planting corn and beans. Gardeners are planting their vegetables, and landscapers are planting trees, shrubs, and seeding lawns. Each of them are expecting a harvest of what they have planted. That is the natural law of sowing and reaping. If you plant corn you expect to harvest corn in the fall.
The spiritual law of sowing and reaping works in much the same way. Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man Soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting. Living a life of sin and selfish desires and expecting to one day inherit heaven is like planting thistle seed and waiting for roses.
Each of us are sowing seeds every day in the field of life weather we realize it or not. Are we sowing to the spirit or the flesh? Our thoughts, our words, our attitudes, and our actions are all seeds being sown. The thing about reaping is that you don’t just reap what you sow, you reap more! One kernel of corn planted in the ground can produce 600 - 800 kernels on one ear. The seeds we sow in this life have that same kind of potential to affect us and those around us!
Let’s purpose today to sow to the spirit so that we can reap that life everlasting.
