I’m sure we all would agree that, at times, we experience physical weariness. Maybe its because we are working too hard or because we aren’t resting as God designed our bodies to. Exodus 34:21 says: “Six days shalt thou labor but on the seventh day thou shalt rest.” Here, God even commands us to rest from our labors and He gave us a day each week to do so.
There are also instances in our lives when we may become spiritually weary. Maybe our weariness is caused by grief, illness, financial stress or something else. God knew this would be something we would, at times, struggle with. He encouraged us in Galatians 6:9: “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” ESV Matthew 11:28-30 says:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” God wants us to take His yoke so that our burdens will be light. He promises that if we do, he will take our burdens, our weariness and we will find rest. Psalm 23:3 says He will restore our soul.
Physical weariness requires rest and we feel refreshed after, but what about our spiritual weariness? Do we allow God to carry our burdens so that we don’t become tired of doing good. Do we allow him to restore and refresh our souls? He has the answer for our weariness. He promises that if we come to Him we will be refreshed.
