Bless The Lord!

Bless The Lord2-450X300

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

[Psalm 103:1 (ESV)]

David chose to praise, glorify, and bless the Lord with his soul – his innermost being, and everything that he was. He turned all of his thoughts and affections toward the Lord, and did not simply speak empty words as we sometimes do. He blessed God due to His holiness, and later acknowledged all the ways that God provides for us and takes care of us. He gives thanks for all that God has done. As you think about how we should bless the Lord, I would encourage you to read the rest of this Psalm.

In recent months some may have found it difficult to bless the Lord, but look ahead just a few verses. The Lord forgives our iniquities and heals our diseases (physical and spiritual). He redeems our lives from the pit - from destruction, despair, and perishing. If that’s not enough, there’s more! One translation of verse 4 says he crowns us with loving-kindness and mercy. He fills our soul with satisfaction and restores our youth and strength. One commentator suggests that we are given strength like an eagle to soar high above the storm. Should we ever find ourselves in a place where we cease to bless the Lord, remember this thought from Spurgeon: “If we never cease to bless Him till He ceases to bless us, our employment will be eternal.”
