8There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. 9All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. 10For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

Psalm 86:8-10 (ESV)

As a child I was taught a prayer that began: “God is great, and God is good…”, and it is a prayer that I’ve never forgotten. As I think back on the many times I prayed that prayer as a young boy, I can’t help but think about how my understanding of the greatness of God has developed. Unfortunately, I sometimes lose focus and perspective, and forget about the greatness of God. Most of the time this happens because I am too focused on my own circumstances.

Have you considered just how great God is, and how His greatness should influence our lives and our perspectives? Today’s passage specifically points to the greatness of God because of His works and because there is no other god like our God. Do we believe that? Do we live like we believe that? A proper perspective of the greatness of God might even have an impact on our daily lives – the way we think, act, and talk.

This week, lets praise God because He is great. Let’s take time to reflect on the ways that God is great. Ask God to help you see His greatness, and then praise Him when you learn more about His greatness. Lets see if that time of reflection and praise has an impact on the way we live our lives.
